Volunteer of the Month - March 2016

Lina
Al Dana

Lina was born and raised in Curacao, the beautiful island of the Caribbean. She moved to Canada along with her husband in the summer of 2014.  She is a Software Engineer with more than six years of international experience, who enjoys spending the spare time hiking, reading, and cooking.

Lina joined the volunteer team at Immigrant Services Calgary on March 27, 2015 as translator and office support. A talented and extremely dedicated individual, she contributed over 80 hours since the first day of volunteering, and helped making a difference in the lives of other newcomers through her work.

“When I first came to Calgary as a newcomer, the hard work and dedication of the Immigrant Services Calgary staff inspired me to give back to my community. Being fluent in six languages helped me start volunteering as a Translator and then I joined the Maple 2.0 program as Office Support volunteer. The best part of volunteering for ISC is knowing that I’m making a difference, and that provides a wonderful sense of accomplishment. Volunteering made my integration in the Calgary community easier than I expected. Immigrant Services Calgary made me feel as a member of their family where everyone is motivated, creative and dedicated to facilitate the settlement of all immigrants and newcomers.”

Congratulations Lina!
