Volunteer of the Month - April 2016

Peter was born in Bonn, Germany and studied architecture in the city of Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia. After working for more than seven years as a registered architect in Germany, he decided to expand his professional experience internationally. In 2006 Peter moved to Calgary and started working at Riddell Kurczaba Architecture.

In Canada, Peter accomplished some amazing projects, such as the WW1 Internment Exhibit Building in Banff. He is invited regularly to the University of Calgary, to critique students finalizing their “Comprehensive Studio” work or their Senior Research Classes. “I am concerned and engaged in professional matters around my profession and enjoy being a mentor for young professionals, as well as foreign trained architects”. As a volunteer mentor at Immigrant Services Calgary, Peter contributed more than 150 hours, mentoring internationally trained architects.

Peter is passionate about architecture and environment, and enjoys spending valuable time with his family and friends. His hobbies are kayaking, hiking, mountain biking and playing tennis. Having travelled through Europe by motorbike, he now takes every chance to travel through Canada, from the coast of the Vancouver Island to remote areas like Yukon, “still amazed at what a beautiful country this is”.

“We enjoy the Rockies and the pristine natural environment […] all the things Calgary has to offer from the Bow River, the vistas and views, to all the amazing communities with its friendly people; there is a great spirit of endless opportunities out here. I have to say the decision to immigrate to beautiful Canada was a good decision.”
