Volunteer of the Month - November 2016

Melanie
Tangwouo

Melanie was born and raised in the beautiful country of Cameroon, in Central Africa. She moved to Canada four years ago, and because French was her first language, Montreal was the natural choice for her new home. In 2015 Melanie graduated HEC Montreal business school with a Diploma in Management complemented by a Certificate in Human Resources, and set to discover Western Canada, specifically Calgary.

Being the kind of person that is constantly concerned about other people’s wellbeing, Melanie always dedicates some of her time to those who need help. Once she settled in Calgary, she looked for a place where her contribution could make a difference.

“I believe that giving to others, in even simple ways, can provide useful help to worthwhile causes: the community and people in need.”

Melanie readily joined the Volunteer Program at Immigrant Services Calgary in May 2016 and has since been actively involved in a variety of projects as translator, community volunteer, and workshop assistant. In less than 6 months she contributed more than 80 hours supporting ISC’s clients and community partners, making a difference just as she wanted to.

“My experience being an Immigrant Services Calgary’s volunteer is wonderful {..}. I have met knowledgeable people, improved my networking skills, and enlightened my intercultural sensibility. Thank you for making me proud of being a member of such a great team.”

Thank you, Melanie, for your generous support to our Volunteer Program. Congratulations!
