Priyanka Goyal - Volunteer of the Month for August 2019
Priyanka Goyal is Immigrant Services Calgary’s Volunteer of the Month
It is undeniable that Priyanka’s positive energy is infectious, so when she enrolled in Immigrant Services Calgary’s (ISC) Volunteer Program in August 2018, we were absolutely thrilled to work with her. She didn’t waste any time getting started. After just two months with ISC, Priyanka had already contributed 163 volunteer hours providing admin support for our Settlement and ILVARC Departments.
“Priyanka Goyal is a committed individual who volunteered at ILVARC for many weeks. Priyanka did an excellent job supporting the large volume of calls that we receive at ILVARC and in providing clients with accurate information at our front office. She also worked closely with the back-office Counseling Team to help them with follow ups. Priyanka was very regular, committed and dependable. She fulfilled all the requirements of a committed volunteer and often went above and beyond. I have no hesitation in recommending her for the “Volunteer of the Month” recognition.” - Anuradha Ramkumar, Program Development/Counseling Team Leader
Priyanka has continued her commitment as an office support volunteer and to date has completed 341 volunteer hours with ISC. This is her story.
“I was born in India, a country full of natural beauty, cultural diversity, and warm people. I was raised in a family where love and care comes first. That is why I strongly believe in togetherness and caring for others.
I completed my Master’s Degree in Public Administration at a university in India. I moved to Calgary in 2008, with my husband and son. Despite the cultural differences between Canada and India, I discovered that my family and I quickly adjusted to this country due to the acceptance of diversity and promotion of self-identity. This place had lots of support for immigrants and provided ample opportunity to improve their lifestyle.
Through exploring various career options, I came to know about ISC and CIWA. I took a short course at CIWA, which helped me to improve my skills and confidence. Now, it was my turn to give back to this wonderful society, so I decided to contribute my skills by volunteering. I started as an Office Support Volunteer at ISC’s ILVARC Department in September 2018. During my volunteering, I met with highly enthusiastic and positive people. This taught me to be resilient and adaptable. In addition, I learned about networking and the Canadian workplace culture. I highly recommend volunteering as it benefits both the individual and the community.
Thank you ISC for enhancing my skills by giving me this wonderful opportunity!”
It is wonderful having you in our office, Priyanka, thank you for choosing ISC to volunteer! Congratulations!
