Akram Zangeneh - Volunteer of the Month for December 2019
Congratulations Akram Zangeneh, on being ISC’s Volunteer of the Month for December!
You may have seen Akram behind the reception when visiting our offices. Clients and staff alike have become used to her helping out at the front desk, or assisting with any number of projects and events that have been held at ISC. She is warm and friendly to everyone and makes the office a more welcoming place. Despite joining the volunteer program in June of this year, she has already spent over 150 hours volunteering. It has been nice to see so much of Akram over the past year. Here is Akram’s story.
Since the first grade, I have always been the representative of students in my classes, and I have enjoyed being the voice of people around me. I love interacting with people and making connections.
After finishing my bachelor’s degree, I started to work as an Executive Assistant in the City Council of my city in Iran; while I was studying for my master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
After finishing my master’s Degree, I started to work in my profession as a Civil Engineer in the municipality of my city.
I immigrated to Canada in March of 2019 and started my journey in this beautiful country.
Since June I have been volunteering with Immigrant Services Calgary in different roles. First providing office support to the Settlement department on the 12th floor with reception duties, as well as providing assistance to the Language Bank and the Mosaic Centre. Now I am also involved in a video shoot that the ISC is doing for newcomers to Alberta about winter, which will help new immigrants to easily adapt to weather conditions and their new life in Canada.
I have enjoyed very much working in a professional environment at ISC with people who devote themselves to providing help and support for new immigrants.
It is my honor to be a part of this great agency and share the vision of Immigrant Services Calgary in making the integration of immigrants much easier.
We would like to thank Akram for all her support over the past year. We look forward to seeing more of you in 2020 as well! Congratulations!
Akram has been a valuable help at ISC’s main reception desk for several months now. She is professional in her work, she is polite, patient, fun and pleasant to work with!
Akram is always engaged and extremely passionate about volunteering and takes initiative to provide diverse and high-quality administrative support at Immigrant Services Calgary,”. - Gezim Fetahu, Receptionist
