Stanley Ukaga - Volunteer of the Month for Oct 2020

Stanley
Ukaga
Please join us in congratulating Stanley Ukaga, for being nominated Immigrant Services Calgary’s volunteer of the month for October 2020! Stanley began volunteering with us in January of this year, and quickly got involved in helping with community and ISC programs. He has been an invaluable supporter of many of the virtual workshops and trainings we have held since the COVID-19 pandemic began. He has acted as a notetaker and facilitator for virtual community meetings, as well as a workshop assistant for ISC’s Online Citizenship Study Classes. We really appreciate Stanley’s adaptability; volunteers like him have made our transition to online services much easier. Volunteers who have helped us with our virtual offerings have been essential in supporting our client’s settlement journey here in Calgary during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is Stanley’s story.

My name is Stanley Ukaga, I was born a Canadian citizen in Nigeria. I moved to Canada in 2017 by myself. I have a bachelor’s degree in English and Literary Studies and after moving to Canada I decided to further my education by taking a Legal Assistant Course. I graduated with Honours from the Legal Assistant Diploma program and I currently work as a full time Legal Assistant.

Through volunteering I have interacted with people who share a similar interest in growing and developing our Calgary community. I have become more involved in the community and I firmly believe in providing support in any way possible to community learning initiatives. In volunteering in the Citizenship classes held by Immigrant Services Calgary, I have learned about the procedures and steps to becoming a Canadian Citizen and I help the facilitators run the online classes.

I have enjoyed volunteering with Immigrant Services Calgary and I look forward to continue contributing to the Calgary community.

Thank you again for your contributions to the volunteer program. Here is what some ISC staff had to say about Stanley’s work with us over the past year:

Stanley has been a valuable help for the online Citizenship Study Class since July 2020. He is detail-oriented, punctual, and always accomplished the tasks with great quality and accuracy! I truly appreciate Stanley’s passion and dedication to help the community!
