Immigrant Services Calgary Appoints New Chief Executive Officer, Hyder Hassan

Following a comprehensive search, the Board of Directors at Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) is pleased to announce that Hyder Hassan has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective February 25, 2019.

Hyder has been involved with the non-profit sector, both in Calgary and abroad, and is excited to be joining ISC. Since 2009, Hyder has held positions in various financial institutions and most recently was Head of Wealth Management at First Calgary Financials/Qtrade. The Board is confident that Hyder’s experience and leadership skills will ensure ISC continues to sharpen its focus on results, collaboration and the importance of volunteering in achieving our success.

Hyder and his wife, Christina, moved to Calgary in 2013.  It did not take long for Hyder to become involved in the local community, including Rotary, Junior Achievement, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and Alberta Health Services. In addition, Hyder has also volunteered with ISC where he organized several client seminars and he hopes to see this initiative continue. Following a visit to Uganda, Hyder and Christina started a non-profit charity – FullSoul – an organization supporting maternal health in Uganda.  As a recognized strong community leader, Hyder received an Immigrants of Distinction Award in 2018.

Hyder will work alongside Krystyna Biel, who is retiring after 30 years of dedicated service, until her retirement on March 31, 2019. The Board is currently developing a transition plan designed to guide the ISC team as we celebrate and build on the important contributions Krystyna has made to the agency and her legacy to us as we welcome Hyder as the incoming CEO.

“Matched with his professional and strategic experience, Hyder’s passion for creating impactful social change will assure Immigrant Services Calgary continues to be a healthy, innovative and financially sustainable organization.” - Shirley Philips, Chair of the Board

The Board of Directors, volunteers and staff look forward to working with ISC’s new CEO, Hyder Hassan.

Sincerely,

Shirley Philips
