Immigrant Services Calgary responds to Government of Alberta Budget 2019
New initiatives support economic growth for newcomers in the province.
CALGARY, AB. – October 28, 2019 – Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) applauds the actions taken by the Government of Alberta as Budget 2019 honours several key supports related to immigration, settlement, and employment.
The Ministry of Labour and Immigration's operating budget, earmarked at $2.5 million, fulfills calls to streamline service and improve efficiencies within the sector. The tabling of the budget occurs at a time when increased interprovincial migration and higher federal immigration targets mean that more immigrants are arriving in Alberta to secure job opportunities. Critical investments for these individuals and their families are being recognized in the Alberta Advantage Immigration Strategy with increased support for hospice and palliative care available to newcomers, as well as the cutting back of red tape. These actions not only promote economic security, but growth, engagement, and dignity for newcomers living in the province.
Working together with the Ministry of Labour and Immigration, Immigrant Services Calgary is prepared to benefit newcomer clients, other agencies, and community organizations and make it easier for newcomers to enter the settlement process, improve the quality of referrals, and further newcomers’ journey to integration. - Hyder Hassan, Chief Executive Officer of Immigrant Services Calgary
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Strategy focuses on making life better for all Albertans. We commend the provincial ministry for its establishment of a Fairness for Newcomers Office which highlights a significant commitment towards helping newcomers find employment in their fields faster.
