ANNOUNCEMENT from Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC)

Effective Immediately: ISC’s Becoming a Better You Program and General Counselling Services will be transitioning to the Centre for Newcomers on July 1, 2021.

ISC is delighted to announce that our Becoming a Better You Program and General Counselling Services will be transferred to the Centre for Newcomers. Effective immediately all new referrals should be directed to the Centre for Newcomers for client assignments and supports.

As one of our vital funders, we support Alberta Health Services’ decision to transition ISC’s Becoming a Better You program and General Counselling Services to the Centre for Newcomers. The Centre for Newcomers will therefore adopt ISC’s Therapy & Support Centre name for these two programs to allow a smooth transition of services. We believe that the Centre for Newcomers is a strong fit for our mandated counselling services and we look forward to continuing to work with them as a key partner in the community.

ISC aims to elevate the work and effectiveness of the newcomer and non-profit sector overall, and this move represents a step in that direction. ISC is committed to collaborating with other organizations to ‘complete versus compete’. By transitioning our Becoming a Better You program and General Counselling Services to the Centre for Newcomers, our newcomer community will be the beneficiaries of such a collective effort.

During the time of transition, our counselling team members will continue to serve their current clients with no interruption to services for existing clients. The Centre for Newcomers is onboarding all current mental health therapists, counsellors, and practicum students as part of the program move.
